Heart, spirit and celebration at the second edition of Singapore’s International Accountants Day festivities.
Clear skies, great music and fantastic causes to support – this year’s International Accountants Day celebrations demonstrated once again the unique spirit of Singapore’s accountancy community.
Organised by the Singapore Accountancy Commission, CPA Australia and Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, the event was held once again at the Lawn @ Marina Bay on 7 November. This year’s festivities saw attendance figures swell to 3,000, with participants drawn from leading accountancy firms, professional bodies, government organisations and beyond – a testament to the galvanising changes that have swept the accountancy sector this past year.
As with the inaugural edition of International Accountants Day, doing good was the order of the day. Also in attendance at the event were 13 worthy causes, each with a booth and supported by a partner from the accountancy community to help it raise funds and boost awareness. Adding to the festive atmosphere were a series of performances by the talented musicians of several Big Four firms.
Another highlight was the book donation drive to help underprivileged youth. With the enthusiastic support of donors and volunteers, the event set a new Singapore record for the most number of people donating books at one location. When it comes to lending a hand to those in need, you can definitely count on Singapore’s accountants, as Guest-of-Honour Mrs Josephine Teo, Senior Minister of State for Finance and Transport, learnt during her tour of the grounds.
Sporting spirit was also very much in abundance. New for 2013 was a tug-of-war contest for teams representing the leading accountancy firms, an event that brought boisterous cheering from their supporters in team colours. The epic competition carried on through the evening and finally saw PwC Singapore taking the honours. Well done to our towering athletes!
With even more participants, greater buzz and another record set for a good cause, International Accountants Day demonstrated that the heartbeat of Singapore’s accountancy sector is as strong as ever. With the enthusiastic support of all our stakeholders and partners, we look forward to a vibrant and exciting 2014! #
